THE
END OF THE THEATRE BUILDING
In
May 2012 Croydon Council unexpectedly withdrew financial support
(on Warehouse Theatre's 35th birthday) - the Council had supported
the theatre for 30 years
until 2008, during which time its international reputation was established,
and more support had been agreed.
This withdrawal forced the managing company,
Warehouse Theatre Company Limited, into needless Administration.
Warehouse
Phoenix Limited,
a new independent company, was quickly set up
in order to keep the Warehouse name alive, as
its established reputation
couldn't be replaced in Croydon, London, the UK or Internationally.
The lease of the Warehouse Theatre building ran out
on 27 November 12 and the landlords
carried out a survey to check its safety. Unfortunately, the
survey revealed serious structural problems,
and the building, sadly, has now been demolished.
2012 to 2016
With our Donation Campaign,
(and a very generous anonymous donor
who matched
every £100 donated)
the following was produced (in
association with Fairfield):
* the 27th International Playwriting Festival (IPF) in June 2013 more
* the production of the outstanding play from IPF13 in October '13 more
* the 28th IPF on
Sat 17 & Sun 18 May 2014 more
* and the 29th IPF on
Sat 25 & Sun 26 July 2015 more
In 2016, and resuming our original name, we produced
the 30th anniversay IPF on 10 & 11 Sept
with support from Croydon Council
in a new theatre space -
THEATRE IN THE CHAMBER more
and now...Farewell!
